One of the categories participated in by SMP Negeri 1 Seruyan Tengah is traditional dance. In its implementation, the role of cultural arts teachers is essential—as motivators, facilitators, mentors, and coaches. This study aims to describe the role of cultural arts teachers in developing students' potential through the FLS2N dance category, identify the challenges faced, and explore the efforts made by teachers to overcome these challenges. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach, supported by the theories of role, constraint, and humanism. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through the processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Informants in this study consisted of cultural arts teachers, dance coaches, and FLS2N student participants. The research findings show that cultural arts teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Seruyan Tengah play a significant role in developing students’ potential in terms of dance skills, discipline, and self-confidence. The main challenges include limited facilities and infrastructure, conflicting training and academic schedules, and low student interest influenced by gender stereotypes. To address these issues, teachers applied contextual learning strategies, differentiated instruction, demonstration and hands-on methods, established dance extracurricular activities, and collaborated with local artists.
